The Hell of Siachen
The Siachen glacier, world’s highest battlefield, has been a source of conflict between India and Pakistan since 1984. Recently, 138 Pakistani soldiers were buried under the snow due to an avalanche. After several days, it is unlikely now that any of them will be rescued alive.
In the background of this incident, Siachen is being mentioned in the media from many aspects. One of these aspects is the description of the severe weather in Siachen. It is said that the temperature on this glacier remains close to minus ten even in summer. While in winter it reaches minus fifty degrees. As a result, there is no possibility for any kind of life to flourish here throughout the year. For the soldiers who are stationed there, eating, drinking, walking, even just breathing is very difficult in this cold. There, due to the extreme cold, the death of soldiers and or loss of body organs is a common thing. Soldier casualties on both sides are more likely to be caused by the weather than by each other. Rather, since the 2003 ceasefire, severe weather has been the only cause of death and disability.
This intensity of the Siachen Glacier weather has an extraordinary message for all of us. This weather of Siachen is calling to all of us and telling us how kind is our Lord, who made most of this earth very comfortable for life. There is oxygen to breathe. Balanced and tolerable temperature. There is a diversity of seasons. Food and water are plentiful. While the universe in which Earth is located, let alone the air, water, vegetation and seasons, the temperatures everywhere are far more terrifying and deadly than Siachen.
But most people live life, unaware of this fact. Instead of being thankful for the blessings of the Lord, they are ungrateful. They consider the land, its resources and conveniences to be their right. They never realize that it is their Creator and Owner who gives them everything they have. It is their responsibility to be thankful and obedient to Him.
To warn such ignorant people, Allah Almighty has created icy hells like Siachen on earth. But when people do not come to their senses or remedy their negligence, avalanches tremble with divine fear and descend due to the sense of greatness of the Lord. Perhaps, seeing their fall, the heedless servants will also fall into prostration. Accept the blessings of the Lord and be grateful to Him.
Regarding those people, who are not moved even by the avalanche of Siachen, what are they waiting for? Are they waiting for the Himalayas to explode? If this is the case, it will not be long before the Himalayas will explode with the doomsday earthquake. There will be no shelter left anywhere. This earth, the cradle of human beings, will be made into their graveyard. But repentance on that day will not help anyone.
Blessed are those people who feel grateful to their Lord after hearing the stories of this icey hell of Siachen. Because tomorrow such grateful people will be settled forever in the eternal bliss of heaven.
