The Unawareness of the Well-Informed

A Western author once remarked that the most unaware people of their surroundings are often those who habitually watch, listen to, and read local news with great enthusiasm.

This statement undoubtedly reflects a harsh truth. In this world, there are people of all temperaments, and various kinds of events are constantly occurring. Accidents happen, crimes are committed, and tragedies unfold. However, under normal circumstances, such situations are exceptions within society. For instance, in a population of ten million, a few people may be murdered. Undoubtedly, even a few murders are serious, but in proportion to the population, these incidents do not significantly affect society as a whole.

On the other hand, in the same city, thousands or even millions of routine events take place. However, the media finds no interest in these ordinary and positive events, as they do not present any newsworthy angles. The media is always drawn to sensational and exceptional events. As a result, news reports typically focus on murders, crimes, accidents, and disasters. But, as mentioned earlier, these are isolated incidents, and despite them, millions of people live normal lives and eventually pass away without experiencing such crises.

Nevertheless, those who consume media tend to form their perspective not on normalcy but on these sensational and negative reports. They begin to live in constant fear and anxiety, spreading these feelings to others as well. Nothing in society appears normal to them. This is the clearest proof of the ignorance of a seemingly well-informed person. Yet, this ignorance comes at a cost—one’s own peace of mind. Undoubtedly, this is the highest price any individual can pay.
