Psychology and the Quran

According to a report by the World Health Organization, 24 million people in Pakistan require psychological treatment—about 10% of the population. On the other hand, the situation is dire, with only one psychologist available for every half a million people, marking the lowest patient-to-therapist ratio globally.

While the statistics are concerning, a glance at our society suggests an even grimmer reality: it feels as though 10% of people might be mentally well, while 90% seem to require psychological help. Factors such as inflation, poverty, unemployment, difficulty in finding suitable relationships, political instability, and widespread uncertainty have contributed to this predicament. Regardless of the reasons, we are undoubtedly facing a crisis.

In such circumstances, one resource that can immediately and significantly alleviate this issue is the living teachings of the Quran. These teachings are not mere concepts; they introduce us to Allah—the Living, All-Hearing, All-Knowing, and All-Powerful Creator. Although Allah created this world as a test, He has not abandoned it. He observes and listens to everything.

If a person develops a connection with this Almighty Being, entrusts their difficulties to Him, learns to rely on His mercy, and begins living a life in accordance with His will, Allah does not remain neutral toward them. He descends from His Throne to assist His servant, resolves their problems, or grants them inner peace. Such a person might face various illnesses, but they will never succumb to psychological ailments.
